Problem

Unusual School identified a significant literacy gap among children in remote areas of Lagos, where access to quality education is severely limited. The goal was to bridge this gap by enhancing the reading and writing skills of children from underprivileged backgrounds, ensuring they have the foundational literacy necessary for future academic success.

Approach

To address this challenge, we developed and delivered a tailored Jolly Phonics training programme. This training utilised a play-based approach, making learning engaging and accessible for young children. The programme was designed to equip the children with the necessary skills needed to improve literacy rates among the target population.

Key Features of the Program

Result

The programme successfully raised awareness and provided essential skills to the children in those underprivileged regions, enabling them to start their reading and writing journey. Generally, the children began to experience significant improvements in their literacy, setting a strong foundation for their future educational journeys.
