Problem
The Chartered Institute of Mentoring & Coaching, Nigeria (CIMCN) faced a critical need for a well-structured committee to lead the organization of several high-profile events. Among these events, the most prominent was the institute’s 12th Annual National Conference, titled "Harnessing Mentoring for Good Governance and Building Sustainable Path to Economic Growth." The success of this event was crucial, as it would not only highlight the institute's commitment to human capital development but also play a pivotal role in influencing public discourse on governance and economic sustainability in Nigeria.
Approach
To address this need, a specialized sub-team, named STAR (Strategic Think Tank And Resources), was formed. We served as the Team Lead. The STAR team was tasked with the comprehensive planning and execution of the conference. This team, under our leadership, was responsible for brainstorming, strategic planning, and meticulous organization of the event. The team was composed of skilled professionals who brought diverse perspectives and expertise to the table, ensuring that every aspect of the conference was covered.
Key Features of the Program
- Initial Vision Alignment: The STAR team commenced its work with a series of meetings with the Director General of CIMCN. These meetings were pivotal in ensuring that the team’s objectives were fully aligned with the broader vision of the institute.
- Strategic Planning Sessions: The STAR team engaged in in-depth discussions and brainstorming sessions, where the conference’s theme and objectives were dissected to ensure all critical elements were addressed. These sessions also facilitated the assignment of specific roles and responsibilities to team members, optimizing the workflow.
- Role Assignment: All STAR team members were assigned specific tasks to ensure clarity of responsibilities and smooth operation.
- Speaker Selection and Engagement: The team carefully curated a list of guest speakers, drawing from industry experts, thought leaders, and influencers whose insights would add substantial value to the conference. A systematic approach was taken to extend invitations, ensuring that the lineup of speakers was both diverse and impactful.
- Event Day Coordination: On the day of the event, the STAR team executed a seamless coordination strategy, managing everything from speaker logistics to attendee engagement. The event was orchestrated with precision, ensuring that all components—from presentations to networking sessions—were conducted without a hitch.
- Post-Event Review: Following the conference, the STAR team conducted a comprehensive feedback session to evaluate the event’s success, identifying areas for improvement, and capturing lessons learned for future initiatives.
